Job Description: The Dane County Historical Society is looking for a part-time Office Manager. Located in the Lussier Family Heritage Center in Madison, WI, the Dane County Historical Society is a non-profit organization. Our primary mission is education: promoting an awareness of Dane County’s rich heritage, thus aiding in its preservation. The Dane County Historical Society is operated by a Board of Directors with funds raised by memberships and donations

The office manager would be responsible for the daily administrative functions of the Historical Society, as well as society publications, social media, special events, and archive projects and maintenance. Schedule is flexible, up to 15 hours per week. Applicants must have demonstrated experience working independently.

Required knowledge or experience with the following:
– Office Suite products: Word, Excel, and Publisher
– Social Media, particularly Facebook
– General office procedures: accounts payable/receivable
– Experience in archives and understanding of archive maintenance
– Excellent written and oral communication, organizational skills

Preferred knowledge or experience with the following:
– WordPress
– Quicken (or other accounting software)
– PastPerfect
– Special event coordination and outreach
– Working with non-profit organization; Board of Directors, donors, and membership

We have several large, ongoing projects to organize, inventory or index collections within the Otto Schroeder Records Center. This would be a good opportunity for a recent graduate to gain practice independently processing collections or in creating Finding Aids. Depending on skills, interest or expertise of the applicant, projects might include:
– Creating metadata for digitization
– Indexing Plat Maps for ease of use
– Organization, inventory, and indexing of Title Abstracts
– Processing Wisconsin Manufacturing Foundry Collection, primarily photographs and catalogs
– Organizing, inventory, and indexing of a large collection of architectural plans from a prominent Madison architect, Martin Schneider
