Job Description: Director of Lincoln Library

The successful candidate would be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the library’s services, resources, programs and staff. Other responsibilities would include, but not be limited to: formulating goals and objectives for strategic short and long term planning, analyzing and administering the library’s budget and revenue, maintaining an active presence in the city of Springfield through associated community groups and other government relations as well as training and developing employees toward an environment of continuous quality improvement.

This position requires evening and weekend work hours as well as residency within Springfield corporate city limits. The qualified selected candidate would have 1 year to relocate and provide proof of residence in the city limits of Springfield. Qualified candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science as well as five (5) years supervisory experience.

As a department of the City of Springfield, the Library Director will support our 117,000 residents and work in partnership with the Mayor as a member of his team of directors. Lincoln Library is home to the area’s Sangamon Valley Collection, an in-depth resource for the study of Springfield, Sangamon County and eleven adjacent counties.
