Scranton, PA: Health Sciences Librarian, Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine

Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) is searching for a Health Sciences Librarian. GCSOM is the newest member of Geisinger Health Systems and is located in Scranton, PA, and is a fully accredited institution offering a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in addition to a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences (MBS) degree.

The Health Sciences Librarian will work cooperatively with Geisinger Health Sciences Librarians to provide specialized information services and instruction to students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians in all health science areas. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to outstanding public service, flexibility, initiative, creativity, and an enthusiasm for working collaboratively. Experience working in a medical or health sciences library is strongly preferred. Normal hours will be Monday through Friday, 8am-4:30pm, with one evening shift per week, in addition to an occasional weekend shift.

A Master’s Degree or one earned by June 2017 in library and information science (MLS or MSLS) from an ALA accredited program is required The successful candidate must have knowledge of current and emerging technologies in digital and web-based library services; strong internet searching skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse groups of individuals, including students, staff and faculty; strong initiative and the ability to function independently and as a contributing member of a team; ability to multi-task and prioritize; ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility; working knowledge of both print and non-print library resources, including internet resources and electronic journal, bibliographic and citation databases; ability to work well with a variety of people within a team framework; and knowledge of standard Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher.
