Librarian II – Children’s (Archer Heights)

Duties: First Assistant. Under the supervision of the branch manager, design, plan; publicize and conduct a comprehensive programming schedule for children and teens. Responsible for collection development and management of the children’s/juvenile department. Establish and maintain relationships with neighborhood’s schools and community groups. Administer city-wide Children’s Services programs such as the Summer Learning Challenge. Seek outside support for library programs and evaluate these programs based on the needs of the community. Assist with Library Card Campaigns. Provide reference and reader guidance services to all patrons including Internet and other media instruction. Supervise and train clerical, paraprofessional and professional staff. Act as person in charge in the absence of the branch manager. Assist with adult services as needed. Attend regular meetings, workshops and training courses. Perform related duties as required.
LOCATION: Archer Heights 5055 S. Archer
DAYS OFF: Sunday and one day during the week
SHIFT: Will be required to work some Evenings and Saturdays
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours
Mon & Wed 12-8, Tues & Thurs 10-6, Fri & Sat 9-5, Sun Closed
THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE
Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master’s degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation supplemented by one year of professional library experience.

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
(a) Experience planning, publicizing and presenting programs
(b) Work experience or coursework in early childhood education
(c) Experience working or volunteering for an educational literacy program – ie. Jumpstart, America Reads etc.
(d) Knowledge of Children’s literature
(e) Digital competencies in production software skills
(f) Conducting research on bibliographic data using library databases and the internet
