Chicago, IL; Teen Services Librarian I, Richard M. Daley

Duties: Under supervision, create, plan, conduct and evaluate youth-driven, project-based programs and workshops aligned to the YOUmedia and connected learning models designed to build skills in digital media, STEM, the maker movement and new emerging technologies. Provide information, reference services, and reader’s advisory to diverse teen populations. Provide basic instruction to teen patrons and educators in the use of library resources both print and electronic. Conduct tours, presentations as well as off-site outreach related to teen library services. Assist with circulation, reserves, holds, and all customer service desk duties. Maintain records and prepare reports. Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as assigned. May be responsible for conducting workshops or programs off-site or at other CPL locations. Host, conduct, coordinate and evaluate city-wide teen services programming. Perform related duties as assigned.

LOCATION: Richard M Daley 733 N. Kedzie
DAYS OFF: Sunday and one day during the week
SHIFT: Will be required to work some Evenings and Saturdays
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours
Mon & Wed 10-6, Tues & Thurs 12-8, Fri & Sat 9-5, Sun Closed

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited American Library Association college or university with a Master’s degree in Library Science or an approved foreign credential evaluation.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
(a) Experience in the area of reference services, reader’s advisory, programming & outreach for teens/young adult services
(b) Knowledge of Teen literature
(c) Experience working or volunteering in a public library
(d) Proficiency in at least 2 of the following areas: (see below categories)
•Photography
•Graphic Design
•Video
•Animation
•Digital Music
•Podcasting
•Making (3D printers, textiles, vinyl cutters, hands-on making activities)
•STEM
(e) Experience conducting programs or workshops for teens
