Lubbock, TX; Unit Manager/ Reference Librarian, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Libraries seeks an experienced librarian for the position of Reference Librarian, Unit Manager at the Preston Smith Library in Lubbock, TX. Reporting to the Senior Director of Public Services, the incumbent will provide reference assistance, including mediated searches and bibliographic instruction to students, faculty, and staff and participate as an instructor for orientation and training sessions. This position includes an opportunity for non-tenure faculty associate appointment in the TTUHSC School of Medicine. Librarians hold academic rank of Faculty Associate and are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional development.

TTUHSC is a growing clinical and research institution with an enrollment of over 4,600 students in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Health Professions, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Institute of Public Health, and School of Pharmacy. The Library has three physical campuses in Amarillo, Lubbock, and Odessa and supports the growing TTUHSC distance education student population.

Required Qualifications and Experience:
A Master’s of Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited institution. Minimum of 3 years experience working in a medical or health sciences library or the equivalent such as a hospital library.
Knowledge of current library practices in a health sciences library.
Demonstrated database searching skills.
Demonstrated experience in providing successful library instruction in a college or university setting to students and faculty having a wide range of skills and goals.
Familiarity with online reference tools.
Familiarity with LibGuides platform.
Demonstrated experience delivering instruction online and face-to-face.
Familiarity with emerging technologies and social media.

Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduate subject credentials in the biological or health sciences.
Specialization in medical librarianship.
Trained and/or experience in searching health and biomedical sciences related databases/websites.
Understanding of the scientific research process as demonstrated by academic or work experience.
Experience teaching evidence-based concepts.
Experience using reference management software.
Familiarity with content management systems such as Sakai.
Experience with website development and maintenance.
Familiarity with systematic reviews.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepares teaching plans; exhibits good teaching instruction and skills.
Conducts library orientations and tours, group training sessions, and assists in library outreach services.
Provide in-person and online reference assistance including mediated searches.
Co-instructor in graduate level library courses; maintains the assigned course modules in Sakai.
Contributes to the Library’s social media presence.
Maintain and enhance LibGuides content pertaining to areas of responsibility.
Attends rounds/conferences as a Clinical Medical Librarian; conducts literature searches as needed.
Maintain and enhance library website content pertaining to areas of responsibility.
Assists with the production of print and online library tutorials.

Salary: $48,000 per year with excellent benefits including ample paid vacation and holidays. TTUHSC Libraries offers a generous professional development program including funding for conference attendance and training. Texas has no state income tax and the Lubbock area offers a low cost of living.
