Outagamie Waupaca Library System – Appleton, WI

The OWLS Board is seeking an enthusiastic, visionary, community-minded leader as its next Director. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience as an executive leader who places libraries as a high priority and stands ready to be the face of the System at all times. The candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, advocacy, and planning skills, exhibit a commitment to community engagement, interact with elected and appointed officials, while articulating and advocating the System’s programs and strategic direction. The candidate will provide sound fiscal management, promote proactive leadership in technology integration, and foster collaborative relationships within the System, throughout the community, and among all member libraries and System constituents.

This position will provide an opportunity to support and transform the System’s programs and services and to direct the evolving relationship between the System, the member libraries, and other constituencies.

Required qualifications include:
• A master’s degree in library science and eligibility for Grade 1 Wisconsin Public Librarian Certification
• Progressively responsible administrative and financial management responsibilities in a public library or public library system
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to analyze and interpret data objectively, and the ability to work well with a variety of people

OWLS has a long history of offering outstanding services to its sixteen member public libraries and their patrons. OWLS also provides technology-related services through the OWLSnet consortium to an additional thirty-three library locations in the adjacent eight-county Nicolet Federated Library System. OWLS currently has a $4.7 million annual budget, including a $1.6 million operating budget, and 14 employees (11.7 FTEs).

Salary is negotiable from $74,547, depending on qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefit package is provided, including health insurance coverage, vacation, and state retirement program.
