Primary responsibility includes all aspects of scheduled exhibitions in the University Art Gallery along with oversight and maintenance of the permanent art and print collections. In cooperation with the Art Gallery Committee, makes recommendations to the Art & Art History Coordinator regarding Gallery exhibitions and scheduling, with final decisions approved by the School Director. Oversees the receipt, installation, maintenance, display and return of art associated with exhibitions, plus other scheduled guest activities that occur in the Gallery. Works cooperatively with the Art Gallery Committee and the Unit Coordinator to establish and maintain policies and procedures related to operations and maintenance. Supervises student workers, interns and volunteers. Works cooperatively with the College Communications Specialist to craft promotions for activity in the Gallery. Maintains an up-to-date contact list of Gallery patrons. Secondary responsibility includes management of an Image Production Lab (IPL) where students document their art for the online portfolio review. Leads group and individual demonstrations in the IPL, and guides students through the use of photographic technology to capture images of their artwork. Oversees maintenance of IPL technology and supplies. Builds and maintains an Internet Image Database (MDID) that expands the art history image collection through the web-based technologies. The Holdrege Area Public Library is located in south central Nebraska, 150 miles west of Lincoln. The library serves all of Phelps County which has a total population of about 9,700, and is an active member of the Pioneer Consortium, a statewide automation resource running on Koha. This busy library has 11 staff members, circulates about 9500 items per month and hosts over 16,000 Internet sessions per year. Originally a Carnegie Library, most areas of the facility have been recently renovated.
Brief overview of Position: The Library Director is an experienced, forward thinking, academic professional with in-depth research, information literacy development, customer service, and academic program support skills. He or she collaborates with the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction to ensure academic support resources are in place for undergraduate and graduate students and faculty.
Promotes excellence in development and delivery of outcomes-based academic library and academic program support practices
- Oversees Library functions to include reference/ research services, development and maintenance of physical and online collections
- Serves as the university resource for development of information literacy initiatives (credit bearing curriculum as well as non-credit bearing workshops)
- Coordinates Academic Program Support services to include tutoring, Writing Center, Math Lab, Supplemental Instruction, and Quiz Lab
- Provides proven, research-based information literacy theory and support for research and reference services inside-, and outside-, of the classroom.
- Maintains up to date trend awareness regarding innovative best practices for academic libraries and academic program support services
- Assesses established learning and non-learning outcomes using evidence-based decision making for continued improvement
