The Fine Arts Library’s Digital Images and Slides Collection (DISC) provides image resources for teaching and research. The collection documents the entire range of works of art and architecture from prehistoric to the present in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Islamic world and includes images of painting, drawings, sculpture, photography, decorative arts, and architecture. The slide collection, which comprises approximately 700,000 35 mm slides, is an historic teaching collection used primarily by the Department of the History of Art and Architecture, but open to the full Harvard community. DISC is embarking on a project to digitize 200,000 rare and unique slides to expand access to the collection, in conjunction with a project to rehouse and transfer a large portion to off-site storage at the Harvard Depository (HD) for long-term preservation. The Tamarind Institute is seeking a detail-oriented individual who can work under limited supervision to oversee the business operations of the gallery, including management of all aspects of print sales. This position will work with marketing staff and the Director to implement and evaluate marketing strategies and expand the client base to reach quarterly sales goals. Oversee planning and execution of art fairs, receptions and other sales activities to cultivate new and existing clients. Coordinates invoicing and shipping for all print sales, and maintains communication with clients. Coordinates gallery schedule for 3 – 4 exhibitions annually and develops exhibitions and programs featuring Tamarind prints and Tamarind artists. Provides instruction to student printers and work-study students about best gallery practices. Participates in print publishing decisions with Tamarind’s Master Printer and Director.
